What Does Sleeping In Makeup Do To Your Face?

Posted by

Ugh, washing my face.... I know I have to.... But it is so easy to justify why I don’t need to.

I'll wash it in the morning, or, Just this one time won't matter, or, I'm way too tired, I'll exfoliate tomorrow.Believe me, I think I have used every excuse not to sometimes. I've been better at washing every night since I have gotten older, but it needs to be a MUST. Well, here are some reasons why you will WANT to wash your face every night.

Most people understand the need to brush their teeth and wash their face first thing in the morning and the last thing at night. So, why do people skip the facial cleanse before going to bed?

Well, there could be a number of reasons why you end up skipping this important ritual, but the most prevalent ones are exhaustion and boredom. Simply being too tired or bored by the end of the day means going through the routine of ridding your face of all that dirt and debris it’s come into contact with throughout the day seem like a dull chore. After a long day at work you might be tempted to just snuggle in front of the screen and watch Netflix till you fall asleep.

But a good way to stay on track with your skincare routine is to understand why its important in the first place. So, here are some of the most important reasons you must cleanse your face before bed.

1. There's science behind it.

Liquid Oxygen 3 step system

Dermatologists suggest that cleansing your face at night could be the single most important thing you do for your health and beauty. Dermatologists know that the skin has an opportunity to be replenished while you’re asleep for those eight hours. Blood supply to the face is increased and a number of essential metabolic processes take place during this period of rest.

Cleansing your face and applying the right products before you go to sleep is the key to looking much younger and healthier for longer. Essentially, Mother Nature offers you a finite window of opportunity during your resting hours when your skin repairs and detoxifies itself. One of the most important things you can do is to provide your skin with a clean slate before you fall asleep. It’s an opportunity you can’t afford to miss if you’re serious about taking care of your health and looks.

Dermatologists recommend using Liquid Oxygen products because oxygen promotes healing, skin cell rejuvenation and is gentle on your skin. And we don't use harmful chemicals like benzoyl peroxide. Instead we use a combination of oxygen, aloe and vitamins A C D & E.

2. Your skin’s been in contact with the world throughout the day.

Throughout the day free radicals in the environment cling to your makeup, so sleeping in it means prolonged exposure to these free radicals which can break down healthy collagen and cause wrinkles. Makeup clogs your pores and is filled with all the outside elements from the day like dirt, dust, smoke, smog, etc. The makeup acts like a magnet for all of those things.

When you leave your makeup on too long your pores will get clogged and that can lead to large pores, acne, rashes, and irritated skin. That can also cause our skin to feel rough and uneven.

Another big factor is your hands coming into contact with a lot of different things which may be covered in dirt and bacteria. If you have a habit of touching your face with your hands then all those bacteria and dirt particles will get transferred to the skin on your face.

If you don’t wash your face before going to sleep, the bacteria will have a lot of time and a perfect environment to multiply and cause damage to your skin. Bacteria settling into the pores of your skin, which are wide open during sleep, is a big reason for any acne outbreaks you may experience.

Washing your face removes not only makeup, but the dirt and dust that your face accumulated throughout the day.

3. Leaving your mascara on can pull out some of your eye lashes.

When you don’t remove eye shadow, or mascara, it is possible that you may touch or rub your eyes while you sleep, and that can cause your lashes to become brittle and break. Leaving on your eye makeup can clog hair follicles and oil glands with bacteria causing inflammation or even styes. And particles from eye makeup could get into your eyes causing abrasions.

4. It's the best time to use products.

As mentioned before, sleep is that time when the skin on your face begins its natural self-healing and repairing processes. The pores open up, metabolism increases, blood flows more freely and dead skin cells break away. Now, if your face is covered in makeup or dirt, then your skin doesn’t have a clear palette to work on while your sleeping. You've missed an opportunity to use the tons of facial beauty products you’ve bought over the years!

Cleansing your face will remove this layer of makeup, and pollutants and clear the way for your skin to absorb moisturizers and lotions more efficiently. The absorption of these essential products is generally boosted during this period of replenishment. So applying anti-acne and/or anti-aging products, before you sleep will allow your skin cells to react with them more effectively.

Dermatologists recommend using Liquid Oxygen products because we don't use harmful chemicals like benzoyl peroxide. Instead we use a combination of oxygen, aloe and vitamins A C D & E. And oxygen promotes healing, skin cell rejuvenation and is gentle on your skin

Liquid Oxygen quote

#SkincareTip!

If you are just too tired to wash your face before you go to bed, wash your face right when you get home from work so you don’t wind down and make excuses that you are too tired.

And what about in the morning? - 'Got stuff to do.

At this point you may be left wondering why you must bother with cleansing your face in the morning, if you’ve done such a great job the night before? Well, the nighttime repair work your skin has been through has left a lot of natural oils and dead skin cells on top of your skin when you wake up. Although these elements are entirely naturally occurring, water alone will not wash them all away. Only about 65% of this oil and debris is washed away with water. That’s the main reason you must cleanse your face both in the morning and at night.

Hopefully this gives you a good idea about the benefits in adopting a cleansing routine for night - and morning. You might even start getting a better night's sleep knowing that your skin is being repaired while you rest!
